Lets pick up on Craig Barrett's suggestion: "We should just staple a green card to every advanced degree granted to a foreign national from a US university in science and engineering,"

It has been stated before, but never followed up seriously.

May be adding it to "What Immigration Voice wants to do?" would be a start

AILA Leadership Has Just Posted the Following:

Take 15 minutes today and watch this very moving Frontline documentary about the devastating effect of the Postville, Iowa ICE raid on the town and on the two villages in Guatemala where the immigrants came from. http://bit.ly/GWBVu[/URL]

The Postville operation was the largest ICE raid in U.S. history and resulted in the arrest, detention, and convictions of nearly 400 undocumented workers, most of whom were poor, uneducated Guatemalan farmers.

It makes me wonder what Iowa leaders are doing to help the people of Postville, who now live in economic ruin; especially Senator Tom Harkin, who has never condemed the unjust Postville prosecutions nor visited the town since the raid, yet recommended Stephanie Rose, one of the lead Postville prosecutors, to be U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Iowa.https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/186823568153827945-87808768427206364?l=ailaleadership.blogspot.com

I have a green card. I have moved to India on 20 Aug 2007. Before going to India I had applied for my re-entry permit (I-131). The re-entry permit is valid from 31 Mar 2008 till 31 Mar 2010.
On 19 Aug 2009 I will be out of US for 2 years, so if I want to maintain my GC status before which date should I come to US and apply for re-entry permit, 20 Aug 2009 (the date of my US departure) or 31 Mar 2010 (expiration date of my travel document)?

My wife is currently on a B1/B2 status which is valid for 10 years. She has an appointment to get her H4 stamped next week. Can she have both the B1/B2 and H4 visa stamps at the same time or will they "Cancel without prejudice" the B1/B2 after the H4 is stamped?

Is there a way to request the consulate not to cancel the B1/B2 visa?

The GOOD: (1) H-1B visa numbers are still available! USCIS recently advised that, as of September 3, 2010, approximately 36,600 H-1B cap-subject petitions were receipted. Additionally, USCIS has reported receipting 13,400 H-1B petitions for aliens with advanced degrees. Therefore, more than 35,000 new H-1B visas are still available for fiscal year 2011 (which ends September 30, 2011). Given the current usage and demand, it is anticipated that the H-1B cap will be reached sometime in the first quarter of 2011 (with no new visa numbers available until October 1, 2011). Professor Raul Hinojosa-Ojeda of UCLA (and a former Immigrant of the Day) has authored a major report that has been released by the Center for American Progress and the Immigration Policy Center that shows that fixing the country's immigration system could produce massive economic benefits for the US. The report shows the following: This report uses a computable general equilibrium model to estimate the economic ramifications of three different scenarios: 1) comprehensive immigration reform that creates a pathway to legal status for unauthorized immigrants in the United States and establishes flexible limits on permanent and temporary immigration that respond to...

For what it's worth, I was a Nikon pro card carrier back in the '70's. It was a FABULOUS service. I was allowed to borrow expensive gear for free that I would never have used otherwise (e.g. radio-remote release, medical telephoto with built-in ring flash, nikonos)

And the "go the head of the line" repair service saved me more than once. While I was vacationing in California I needed some urgent repairs and was told by the local main Nikon repair shop that their backlog even for "urgent" repairs was 3 months. I flashed my pro card and it was in the repair shop by 10:00 and out by noon!

One of the docs folks usually send is an employment letter from your new employer detailing the job duties, etc.

Most would give you this only after you join the new employer.

I don't think an offer letter with job duties would suffice.

Just my 2 cents. Hope this helps.

If you apply in April 2011 for 2012 quota, yes you will need to go out on/before June 2011 and come back in october 2011(will need H1B stamping too).
On the other hand, If the H1B quota for 2011, which can be applied from April 2010 is not exhausted until you apply in 2011, You can stay and apply with out any problems, but this seems very remote, if not impossible.

Has anybody had any experience with changing address to PO box on form AR 11 with USCIS or otherwise.

I recently had mail theft and have obtained a PO box but am not sure if we can fill out form AR 11 using PO box address. Mail theft is not uncommon and nobody would like to lose their EADs/FP notices in mail. The form asks for street address.

Also if people utilize AC21 to change jobs (or change locations) it would be simpler to have a PO box to get your mail.

I have put out the question to my lawyer but haven't heard back yet.

Anybody with any experience do post.

I would like to run it by a good lawyer to make sure there would not be an issue with AC21 (I am well past 180 days now).

Can anyone recommend a good lawyer?

The Highway Patrol officer pulls over a speeder on the freeway. It's a young woman in a Red Camaro. "Do you know how fast you were going?", he questions her. "I don't know, officer", she stammers. "I'm late for a job interview, and I wasn't paying a lot of attention. I'm really sorry." "Not as sorry as I am" replies the officer, who takes out his pistol, and shoots each of her tires. "If I ever catch you speeding again, I'll shoot you!" Then he arrests her and takes her to jail. Did this really happen? Of course not! In...

Hello All,

I've been reading a lot on these forums about guys asking where to send 485 applications to. While my I-140 got approved from Texas center (originally filed at Nebraska center) , my lawyer still sent my 485 application to Nebraska center. I think, he has made a correct decision since, 485 form mentions that all employment based applications should be sent to Nebraska center. Please correct me If I am mistaken.

Secondly, the application fee can be in the form of personal check made payable to USCIS or Department of Homeland security. I've made checks payable to USCIS - does any one know if the check has to say "USCIS" or should it say "United States Citizenship and Immigration Services"? I would think just "USCIS" would suffice.

Any light shed on these two points would be greatly appreciated...

I have this thought. We start a letter campaign sending letters to all the house members: 1) To get them aware of Legal immigration and 2) To put our case fwd.

I feel it will be very effective as the flower campaign. Atleast most of us can participate in it, less expensive, less time consuming. And we can see why we wouldn't they respond to the bulk of mail they are getting every day.

I know we did letters through email etc. But i think sending through post will be different and they will be obligated to respond.

I do not know whether this is a good idea. so please dont rush at me.:)
